The Core of a Blazar Jet
نویسنده
چکیده
The nature of the bright upstream end of jets as seen in VLBI images, known as the core, is difficult to specify because it is only weakly resolved on the images. Here the author discusses evidence indicating that the core is either where the optical depth is of order unity or a standing shock somewhat farther downstream. The jet at this point is turbulent, causing the polarization to be low and variable. At short millimeter wavelengths where the overall continuum spectrum turns over, the core should be at or just downstream of the zone where the flow is accelerated and collimated.

High Resolution VSOP Imaging of a Southern Blazar PKS 1921–293 at 1.6 GHz
We present a high resolution 1.6 GHz VSOP image of the southern blazar PKS 1921–293. The image shows a typical core–jet morphology, consistent with ground–based VLBI images. However, the addition of data from the space antenna has greatly improved the angular resolution (especially along the north–south direction for this source), and thus allowed us to clearly identify the core. Model fitting ...
متن کاملVSOP Observations of the EGRET Blazar 1633 + 382
Two high-resolution 5 GHz VSOP+VLBA images of the blazar 1633+382 reveal clear morphological change in both the bright inner east-west jet, and in the more diffuse structure further down the jet to the northwest. Here, we discuss the motion of the inner jet as traced by these VSOP images and earlier VLBA observations. The quasar 1633+382 shows a γ-ray bright blazar nucleus (Mattox et al. 1993) ...
متن کاملTwo classes of radio flares in the blazar PKS 0420 − 014
The two 5GHz VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) observations (1996 June and 1997 November) presented in this paper, combined with several former VLBI observations at 8.4GHz and 5GHz, suggest that the radio flares of the blazar PKS 0420−014 can be divided into two classes according to their geometric origins in 5 or 8.4GHz VLBI maps and the properties of light curves. One class of flares, ...
متن کاملExtended radio emission in Mojave blazars: Challenges to unification
We present the results of a study on the kiloparsec-scale radio emission in the complete flux density limited MOJAVE sample, comprising 135 radio-loud active galactic nuclei. New 1.4 GHz Very Large Array (VLA) radio images of six quasars and previously unpublished images of 21 blazars are presented, along with an analysis of the high-resolution (VLA A-array) 1.4 GHz emission for the entire samp...
متن کاملDiscovery of off-axis jet structure of TeV blazar Mrk 501 with mm-VLBI
Context. High-resolution millimeter wave very-long-baseline interferometry (mm-VLBI) is an ideal tool for probing the structure at the base of extragalactic jets in detail. The TeV blazar Mrk 501 is one of the best targets among BL Lac objects for studying the nature of off-axis jet structures because it shows different jet position angles at different scales. Aims. The aim of this study is to ...

In this research dense fluid discharge was experimentally investigated under the surface jet in the shallow acceptor. The investigated parameters were depth of the acceptor ambient, flow rate and the concentration of surface jet. In order to investigate the relationship between these parameters, a physical model experiments were performed in the hydraulic laboratory of Shahid Chamran University...
